How to Buy Power Tools at an Estate Sale

The more estate sales you attend the more amazed you’ll be at the selection of items you come across.

For many, there is nothing better than the power tools that are often for sale.

While anyone can purchase new power tools at their favorite home improvement store, it takes a bit more knowledge to do so at an estate sale.

When you buy secondhand tools, you can get exactly what you want without having to pay the “new purchase” price. Does it get any better than that?

If you find yourself shopping estate sales for power tools, here are some tips to follow:

·      Do your research. Once you find a tool that piques your interest, do some quick research on your phone. Does it have good online reviews? Is it priced below what you would pay for it new?

·      Focus on the brand. Believe it or not, the brand name definitely matters when purchasing used power tools. The more well known brands, such as DeWalt and Bosch, are known for providing many years of service. Conversely, cheaper brands, such as Chicago Electric, may have outlived their use by the time they hit the secondary market.

·      Inspect the tool. Is the power cord in good condition? Is the tool rusted out? Are all the accessories, such as the battery, included? A quick inspection will tell you a lot about a tool, including how well it’s been cared for over the years.

The next time you’re at an estate sale, pay close attention to the selection of power tools. You may find exactly what you’re looking for!
