How to Know when it’s Time to Sell a Piece of Furniture

Buying furniture can be fun and stressful at the same time. While you know you will enjoy the piece for the meantime, there are always questions about how long it will work for you and your home.

There may come a time when you want to sell a piece of furniture. For example, this comes into play when having an estate sale. Here are three times when it makes sense to sell:

1. You are moving from your home. One of the primary benefits of an estate sale is the ability to liquidate items that you don’t want to take with you from one property to the next. If you are downsizing, for example, it may be time to sell some or all of your furniture.

2. You are redecorating your home. Your furniture may be perfect for your home at the present time, but this could change in the future. Maybe you are painting the walls. Maybe you are getting new flooring. Or maybe you are knocking down a wall. When you make big changes, you may no longer have a need for certain furniture.

3. It is worn out. Let’s face it: some furniture does not last forever. If a particular piece has seen better days, it is time to move on. It may be hard to do, but it’s a decision you need to make.

Note: if your furniture is too worn out, it may be time to realize that the item is not resalable.
