Do You Want Your Parents’ Stuff?

As a Baby Boomer, it goes without saying that your parents are closing in on the end of their life. As difficult as this may be to think about, you need to keep a firm grasp on the future.

This means many things, including the fact that you could be left to sort through all your parents’ belongings.

While there are sure to be some items you want to keep, don’t be surprised if you realize this to be true: you want to get rid of most of the stuff you come across.

As you know, styles change over time. So, while you may have been enticed by some items 10 or 15 years ago, they are no longer in style.

The best thing you can do is make a list of the items you want to keep and the ones you want to dispose of. Yes, this can be a difficult task. And yes, it will take some time. That being said, you owe it to yourself and your parents to move forward in this manner.

Contact an Estate Sale Company

Do you need some help? Once you know what you want to keep, reach out to an estate sale company for assistance. Provide information on your situation, what you’re trying to accomplish, and your timeline.

From there, let the professional step in and provide you with the guidance you require. For example, you may find that a particular item is more valuable than you thought. If you still don’t want to hang onto it, you can always sell it at an estate sale for a profit.

When a parent passes on, most children don’t look forward to going through their stuff and deciding what to keep. If you find yourself in this position, don’t rush through the process. Also, don’t assume that throwing everything out is the best way to move forward in an efficient manner. Selling the items you don’t want is a great way to clean out a home while making some money.
