How to Help a Parent Plan an Estate Sale

Do you have a parent who is interested in downsizing or de-cluttering? Do you have a parent who’s hoping to move in the near future, perhaps because their spouse has passed on?

As an adult child, it may be time for you to step in and discuss the many benefits of an estate sale.

While this isn’t always an easy process for an older individual – as they may struggle with leaving their home – it’s often the best decision.

Here are a few things you can do to help a parent plan an estate sale:

·      Explain the benefits. Someone who is unfamiliar with an estate sale may not realize the many benefits, such as the ability to earn money while getting rid of stuff that is no longer needed. Once you explain the benefits there’s a greater chance your parent will be excited about moving forward.

·      Assist with going through every item in the home. This is often the most difficult part of planning an estate sale. You can step in and assist with the process from beginning to end, giving your loved one someone to lean on along the way.

·      Find the right estate sale company. It’s important to find a company that can assist with every aspect of the project, from planning to marketing to taking payments and cleaning up.

These are just a few of the many steps you can take to help a parent plan an estate sale. And of course, if you require any additional assistance, be sure to contact us!
