Reasons to (and not to) Attend the First Day of an Estate Sale

shutterstock_94452115Is there an estate sale in your area that you hope to attend? Are you planning when to visit, what you want to buy, and how much you are willing to spend?

If you find yourself interested in an upcoming estate sale, here is a question to answer: are you going to attend the first day of the sale?

While this may not sound like a big deal, there is one very important reason to consider this: the selection.

When you are first in the door, you can be rest assured that you will have access to every available item. However, if you don’t make your way to the estate sale until the last day, a lot of the best items will have already been sold.

If you want to find the best selection of merchandise, you need to visit an estate sale early the first day.

What About Price?

While the early birds get access to the best selection, remember this: organizers don’t often negotiate or discount prices on the first day. There is nothing wrong with asking, but don’t expect much “give.”

If you wait until the last day, however, this all changes. Since the organizers want to liquidate everything, they are more likely to lower the prices. In fact, don’t be surprised to find discounts as high as 25 to 50 percent during the final hours of the sale.

As you can see, there are benefits of attending an estate sale on the first day as well as waiting. It all comes down to what you are trying to accomplish.
