Reasons to Buy Furniture at an Estate Sale

Last week, we shared a blog post entitled “5 Things you Should Buy at an Estate Sale.” While you have the right to buy whatever you want at an estate sale, some items receive more attention than others.

Number one on that list was “furniture.” Not only is older furniture often times better, thanks to the high quality construction, but estate sales are known for having many of these items for sale.

If you are in the market for a high quality piece of furniture  – such as a desk, armoire, or table – check out some of our upcoming estate sales. You may be surprised at what you find.

Here are three reasons to buy furniture at an estate sale:

1. Higher quality. There is no guarantee that the furniture you find will be of the highest quality. However, many find that estate sale furniture is older, which means it is almost always constructed of solid wood. From the living room to the dining room to the bedroom, you will come across a variety of furniture types.

2. Fraction of the new cost. Why pay more money for a product of lesser quality? New furniture stores have a lot to offer in terms of selection. At the same time, their prices are sure to be higher than what you will come across at an estate sale.

3. Option to refinish. If you have the “creative vision,” you may find a piece of furniture, such as a dresser, and immediately realize that it can be refinished to suit your wants, needs, and personal tastes. Best yet, this gives you the chance to make the item your own.

Now do you understand why so many people flood estate sales in search of high quality furniture? If you are in the market for such an item, don’t start at local stores. Instead, check out some local estate sales first.
