Should You Buy Electronics at an Estate Sale?

An estate sale is an opportunity to shop a variety of items, all of which are priced to sell. From tools to furniture, from artwork to antiques, you never know what you’ll come across.

For many people – especially those techies out there – buying electronics at an estate sale is an interesting subject.

Not only is this a great way to save money, but with a diligent eye you may pick up a deal you’d never find anywhere else.

When buying any type of electronic item second hand, here are some important questions to answer:

•    Does it power on as expected?

•    Does it include all accessories, such as a power cord and remote control (for televisions)?

•    What is the overall condition?

•    Is there any damage, such as to the screen, that could impact performance?

•    Were you able to turn it on and test it out?

As a general rule of thumb, make sure an electronic item works before taking it home. The last thing you want to do is assume you’re getting a good deal, just to find that the item doesn’t work as expected (or at all).

The next time you’re in the market for any type of electronics, stop by a local estate sale (or a handful or events) to see if you can score a good deal on a high quality item. It may be the best way to save money, while still getting exactly what you want.
