Three Downsizing Tips that will Change your Life for the Better

clutterMany people have no problem downsizing. They look at this as an opportunity to better there life, and are more than willing to consider any option for getting rid of “stuff” they no longer need.

Conversely, there are people who need a push in the right direction. They realize the benefits of downsizing, but are unsure of what they should be doing and how to make the most of the process.

Here are three tips to consider:

1. Move out of your current home. If this is an idea you have been considering, now may be the time to pull the trigger. A move is one of the best times to downsize. With a smaller place, you won’t have enough room for all your stuff. As a result, you will find it necessary to declutter on your way out the door.

2. Avoid excuses. It is easy to find reasons to hold onto unused items. Maybe I will use it in the future. Maybe it is worth something. Forget about all this. Instead, dive right in so you begin to make immediate progress. Waiting for the “right moment” is only going to slow you down. The right time is now.

3. Don’t delay in valuing items. There is a chance that you have some valuable items around your home. You don’t want to throw these out as you downsize. You also don’t want to wait around, as you may be holding onto something that has no real value. Rather than get stuck in an endless circle of frustration, value your items as soon as possible. Those that have no real value, either monetary or personally, can be sold or thrown out.

If downsizing is on your mind, if this is something you have been looking to do, these three tips will put you on the right track. Do you need help getting started? Contact us to decide if an estate sale is the right answer.
