What is Upcycling? Can it Work for Your Home?

The term upcycling has been gaining steam for the past few years. Hipcycle defines this as follows: upcycling is the process of converting old or discarded materials into something useful and often beautiful.

Maybe you have some stuff around your home that is perfect for upcycling. Or maybe you have come to realize that you can purchase items, such as at an estate sale, that need a little TLC to make them great again.

Now that you understand the basics of upcycling, it’s time to answer an important question: can this work for you and your home? While you may not have any experience with this, most find that it is a fun process that gives them a great sense of pride.

If you want to get involved with upcycling, if you want to give this a try, you need to first determine which items to start with.

For example, maybe you have an old dresser in your basement. While it has been gathering dust for the past few years, it’s time to pull it out and get to work. With a little bit of elbow grease, some sand paper, and a lot of creativity, you can turn this old dresser into a piece you will be proud to display in your home.

There are many other items you can upcycle, including but not limited to: window shutters, railings, posts, windows, and doors.

How cool would it be to turn that old door into a dining room table? Imagine if you could turn a few window shutters into a room divider. This is what upcycling is all about.

The nice thing about upcycling is you don’t need tons of money to get started. You can use items from your home, or purchase on the cheap. From there, let your creativity take over!
