Should You Sell that Item at Your Estate Sale?

Once you decide in favor of having an estate sale, there are many details that you need to work through.

Here is one of the most important questions to answer: what items should you sell?

While some people are okay with selling almost everything in their home, others realize that it’s not as cut and dry.

Here are a few questions to answer as you attempt to decide which items to sell at your estate sale:

·      Does the item have any special meaning to you? For example, if it was a gift from a loved one, you may not be comfortable selling it at your estate sale.

·      Is the item valuable? This could push you in both directions. On one side, you may want to keep it with the idea of the value increasing in the years to come. Conversely, you may want to sell it as a means of grabbing hold of some quick cash.

·      Are you okay with the idea of relocating the item? This comes into play when holding an estate sale before downsizing or doing so on behalf of another person, such as a loved one who has passed.

Only you know which items to keep and which items to sell. By answering these questions, you can better understand how to move forward.
